Varuthini Ekadashi
Varuthini Ekadashi is observed on Vaishakha Krishna Ekadashi. According to the Padma Purana, it is the Ekadashi that gives good fortune in this world and the next, takes away every sin and grants enjoyment and liberation.

This Ekadashi falls after Hanuman Jayanti (Chaitra Purnima). In the amanta calendar it is called Chaitra Krishna Ekadashi, but the day is the same.
Significance of Varuthini Ekadashi
In the Padma Purana, Lord Krishna tells Yudhishthira that Varuthini Ekadashi of Vaishakha's dark fortnight gives good fortune, takes away every sin and cuts the bond of returning again and again to the womb. By this vow Kings Mandhata and Dhundhumara went to heaven, and Lord Shiva was freed from Brahma's skull.
Shri Krishna also ranks the gifts: an elephant is greater than a horse, land than an elephant, sesame than land, gold than sesame, and food than gold, for ancestors, gods and humans are all satisfied by food. But the greatest is the gift of learning, and one who keeps the Varuthini vow gains a fruit equal to it.
How Varuthini Ekadashi Is Celebrated
Devotees bathe in the morning, take the vow, worship Lord Vishnu as Madhusudana and hear the glory of Varuthini Ekadashi. The fast is kept without water, with water only or with fruit, as one is able, and a vigil is kept at night.
The rules of this Ekadashi span three days. On Dashami give up bell-metal vessels, urad, masoor, chickpeas, kodo millet, leafy greens, honey, another's food, eating twice and intercourse. On Ekadashi avoid gambling, sleep, betel, cleaning the teeth with a twig, slander, tale-bearing, theft, violence, sexual pleasure, anger and lies. On Dwadashi, even after the parana, avoid eating twice, oil, honey, exercise and travel.
Varuthini Ekadashi Puja Vidhi
