Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir, Ayodhya

Ayodhya is regarded in Hindu tradition as one of the seven moksha-granting cities (Sapta Puri), the ancient capital of the Kosala kingdom on the banks of the Sarayu river, and, per the Ramayana, the birthplace of Lord Rama and the seat of King Dasharatha's rule. It is believed that Lord Vishnu incarnated here as Rama in King Dasharatha's household, making this one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for millions of devotees.

In November 2019, India's Supreme Court ruled that the disputed land be handed to a trust for temple construction, and directed the government to provide alternate land elsewhere for a mosque. Construction of the present temple followed this ruling, and the consecration (Pran Pratishtha) of Ram Lalla was held on 22 January 2024 in the Prime Minister's presence. The temple is built entirely of stone in the Nagara architectural style, without the use of iron or steel, and the sanctum's Ram Lalla idol is carved from black stone (Krishna Shila) from the Sarayu region.

General darshan is free and available roughly between 7-11:30 AM and 2-7 PM. To avoid crowds, a free Sugam Darshan pass can be booked in advance on the official website, considerably reducing wait time.

Besides the Ram Janmabhoomi temple, Ayodhya's Hanumangarhi, Kanak Bhawan, and the Sarayu ghats are also worth visiting, and most pilgrims cover all of these in a single trip. The grand Deepotsav lamp festival held around Diwali is also especially worth seeing.
