Stanza

Akhil srishti mein koti-koti jan, Karen tumhari seva.

Ja par kupit hou tum swami, Ghor kasht vah paave. Dhan vaibhav aur maan-kirti, Sab palbhar mein mit jaave. Raja Nal ko lagi Shani dasha, Rajpaat har leva.

Ja par prasanna hou tum swami, Sakal siddhi vah paave. Tumhari kripa rahe to, Usko jag mein kaun sataave. Taamba, tel aur til se jo, Karen bhaktajan seva.

Har Shanivar tumhari, Jai-jaikaar jagat mein hove. Kaliyug mein Shanidev mahaattam, Dukh daridrata dhove. Karu aarti bhakti bhaav se, Bhent chadhaun meva.

How to Read Shanivar Aarti

Every Saturday evening, light a lamp, fill a copper vessel with mustard oil, and sing this aarti before an image of Shani Dev or a peepal tree. Since Saturday is also Hanuman's day of worship, many devotees complete their Saturday puja with this very aarti after worshipping Hanuman.

About Shanivar Aarti

The Shanivar Aarti is a traditionally composed hymn, with a repeated refrain (Jai Shani Deva) and four verses. It describes both Shani Dev's wrath and his grace, the illustration of King Nala, and the means of devotion to him.

This page presents the full text in clean Devanagari, with a simple meaning for every line. Text size can be adjusted, the meaning can be read aloud, and the full reading can also be printed.

The Shanivar Aarti has no known composer, and so it is regarded as a traditional composition. It describes Shani Dev's glory, refers to the Sadhesati that befell King Nala, and describes the tradition of serving him with copper, oil, and sesame. This aarti is distinct from Shani Dev's two other popular aartis, 'Jai Jai Shri Shanidev' and 'Om Jai Jai Shani Maharaj', and is a separate, well-known composition in its own right.
